 WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY 

12th October 2022 



    World  arthritis day  is observed on 12 October every year and it is a Global Health awareness event which helps to create awareness about rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. This day is to bring people around the world on a single platform so that their voice is heard and more support is provided for the people who are affected with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease.

  The theme for world of the day 2022 " it's in your hands take action". 

    Theme is to encourage people with Arthritis, their caregivers, families and the general public so that they don't feel that they are all alone in this situation. world Arthritis day plays a major role in increasing people, medical organizations and government across the world to create awareness.

     Arthritis is an inflammatory joint disorder affecting the joint tissues and connective tissues that results in joint pain and stiffness. There are more than hundred types of arthritis but the osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis  are the most common ones. 

    Osteoarthritis  usually occurs  for the people above 50 to 60 years. It is a normal wear and tear disease. The rheumatoid arthritis develops between the age of 30 and 50.  It is an Auto immune disease. The another common type of Arthritis is Gout which causes by excess of uric acid in the body. 

    When the Arthritis occurs the symptoms are mild at the beginning and it will be worsen when it's progressive. Joint pain, stiffness and swelling are the most common symptoms and the other symptoms are limited range of motion, muscle weakness, morning stiffness, fatigue, inflammation of the eyes and the mouth and  low red blood cells count.

     It is treated with 

  • Medications and supplements 
  • Physical therapy 
  • Nutrient rich diet 
  • Regular exercise 
  • Weight loss if needed
  • Heat and cold compresses 


There are many foods that can ease inflammation and may help release some of the joint pain associated with arthritis. 

1. Fatty fish 

    Fatty fish  such as Salman, mackerel, and sardine are high in Omega 3 fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory effects and it is also a good source of vitamin D which can help to prevent deficiency thus they reduce Arthritis pain and beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis also.

2. Garlic 

    Garlic has anti inflammatory effect that may help decrease symptoms of arthritis .

3. Ginger 

    Apart from adding flavor to food, Ginger may also help to ease the symptoms of arthritis. consuming Ginger as a fresh, powdered or dried  may reduce inflammation.

4. Cruciferous vegetables

     The cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower  and Broccoli are helps to reduce symptoms of arthritis 

5.Nuts and seeds 

    They are high in Omega 3 fatty acids and all other micronutrients which helps to reduce the inflammation associated with joint disease. Include Almonds, walnuts, and seeds  in your diet 

6. Berries 

    Tons of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals are found in to each servings of berries which have the ability to decrease inflammation. Can include strawberry, blackberries, blueberries which are rich in antioxidants. 

7. Green leafy vegetables 

    Leafy Greens are full of nutrients and they help to decrease inflammation caused by arthritis. spinach is high in antioxidants Kaempferol,  which shown to decrease the effects of inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

8. Grapes 

    Grapes are nutrient dense, and has  anti-inflammatory which have many beneficial effects on arthritis.




FOODS TO AVOID FOR ARTHRITIS    

  • Sugary beverages worsen the symptoms of arthritis 
  • Processed food  & the process meet  increases the symptoms of arthritis 
  • Gluten rich foods : For some people who affected with Arthritis the gluten foods can increase inflammation, sometimes going gluten free is  reduce the symptoms of Arthritis.
  • Ultra processed items like breakfast cereal  are high in refined grains, added sugar, preservatives which may worsen Arthritis symptoms 
  • Alcohol  increases arthritis symptoms and it increase the frequency and severity of gout attacks
