WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY - MAY 31st



# World No Tobacco day is observed around the world every year on may 31st.

# Theme of the year : GET READY FOR PLAIN PACKAGING



# The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects.

# Tobacco use which currently leads to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide, including 600,000 of which are the result of non - smokers being exposed.

# World Health Organization created world No Tobacco Day in 1987, in the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments, public health organisations, smokers, growers and the tobacco industry.



TOBACCO  


# Tobacco is a product prepared from the leaves of the tobacco plant by curing them.
# It contains the alkaloid nicotine, which is stimulant.
# Dried tobacco leaves are mainly used for smoking in cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and flavored shisha tobacco.
#They can be also consumed as snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco and snus.

RISK FACTORS OF CONSUMING TOBACCO :



1. MORTALITY : 

                   Smoking causes about 5 million deaths per year.

2.CANCER : 

                    Tobacco consumption causes lung cancer, kidney cancer, mouth cancer, stomach cancer.

3. PULMONARY DISEASES :

                   Smoking causes pulmonary damage which leads to emphysema and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder ( COPD) ,is a permanent , incurable, reduction of pulmonary capacity (shortness of breath, wheezing and damage to the lungs.

4.HEART DISEASES :

                        Smoking increases the chance of heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis and peripheral vascular disease.

5. KIDNEY DISEASES :

                        Smokers are at a increased risk of chronic kidney disease than non- smokers. it increases the progression of diabetic nephropathy.


6.STRESS : 

                    Usually smokers report that smoking help relieve feelings of stress, but the stress level of smokers are slightly higher than those of non- smokers.
   

7. IMMEDIATE EFFECTS :

                         New smokers may experience nausea, dizziness, increase blood pressure, narrowed arteries and rapid heart beat.
          


#Quitting requires a lot of desire, determination, and commitment. The more you learn about your options and develop a proper plan for quitting, the easier it will be.
#Main reason quitting is such a difficult task is because nicotine is a very addictive substance. It messes with your mind and keeps it asking for more. There are a lot of methods that will help you quit smoking.

FOODS THAT HELPS TO QUIT SMOKING :

1. MILK

                Drinking a glass of milk before smoking helps to quit smoking as cigarette tastes  bitter.

2. FRUITS  & VEGETABLES :

                 Including vegetables like carrot, celery, papaya and sweet lime in your food before smoking will help a lot to quit smoking.

3. VITAMIN C RICH FOODS :

                  Include vitamin -c rich foods like orange, amla, guava and lemon will helps to quit smoking.

4. SALTY & CRUNCHY SNACKS :

                  Whenever you crave for smoking just have salty & crunchy snacks like salt biscuits or chips which deprive your craving.

5. DRY FRUITS :

                  Chewing dry fruits like Raisins, Dates , Dried Figs and Apricots helps to reduce the craving towards smoking.
